Presenting papers

Below is a discussion of how paper presentations will work.

Each student must present individually on their assigned day. Makeup dates will not be given, student may discuss swaps with other students; sufficient time must be given and the instructor, them class must be notified. On most days, two students will present the same paper. On days with a single presentation, we will discuss project questions and issues .

Presentations should aim to be around 25 minutes. You may use any presentation format (e.g. video, poetry, skits, etc.). You should be prepared to make yourself available for questions during and after the presentation. At the end of the class period, both students should make themselves available available to respond to panel-style questions and comments. Audience members can use this time to help develop or finalize written comments. Presentation content should be posted to the class discussion board.

Each student must also participate by being an active listeners. You can either answer a question (via text) on zoom or on the class discussion board. Feedback and comments must be posted before the next class day.

Recognized feedback will be in the following forms. Note that all points should be made with the utmost respect and consideration for the presenter:

Offer an opinion and support it with examples from the text.
Provide an additional resource that helped you understand a concept.
Ask a probing question or clarification of a point.
Expand on a point to provide further explaination.
Share an insight or something you learned from reading your peer’s posting or from your other reading.

Presenter Grades

Grading will be based on the following rubric.

Where Key points discussed? (40 pts)	Student has identified key points and enumerated strengths and weaknesses.	Student has identified key points and strengths or weaknesses.	Student has identified key points.	Student has attempted to describe key points.
Engaged audience? (10 pts)	Student makes appropriate use of font, color, graphics, effects, etc. to enhance the presentation; Student effectively uses eye contact, body language, and movement to enhance presentation; Student is able to answer audience questions effectively.	Student makes good use of font, color, graphics, effects, etc. to enhance the presentation; Student effectively uses eye contact, body language, and movement to enhance presentation. Student partially answers audience questions.	Student makes use of font, color, graphics, effects, etc. to enhance the presentation; Student does not uses eye contact, body language, and movement to enhance presentation. Student answers audience questions with some help.	Student makes use of font, color, graphics, effects, etc. but it detracts from presentation; Student make poor use of eye contact, body language, and movement to enhance presentation.
